The United Way and the 1996 Olympic Committee are looking for 50 to 60 volunteers to carry the Olympic flame as it travels through Orange County on its way to the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The flame, which will be flown from Athens, Greece, to Los Angeles International Airport, will be relayed April 27 from Seal Beach to San Clemente along Pacific Coast Highway.
“We are looking for a cross-section of the community to make sure all different walks of life are represented,” said Jeff Urbaniec, a United Way spokesman.
Judges are seeking people who consistently help their neighbors, are role models of achievement or are involved in programs that improve the quality of life for people in their communities.
To volunteer or to nominate another person, submit an essay of up to 100 words describing the person’s contribution to the community and briefly explaining its significance. Nomination deadline is Nov. 30.
