VENTURA : Man Hit and Killed by Train Is Identified

The man who apparently committed suicide by stepping in front of a speeding Amtrak train Tuesday night in Ventura has been identified as David Slater.
Coroner’s officials believe the 32-year-old Ventura resident was mentally ill and had been seeking inpatient help.
Slater died instantly when he was hit by the train near California Street at about 5 p.m. Witnesses say he was walking along the tracks and jumped in front of the oncoming, southbound train.
