The Miracle Woman (Cinemax Monday at noon) is a fascinating 1931 takeon evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson (played by Barbara Stanwyck) and a better picture than director Frank Capra remembered it to be.
Smile (Showtime Tuesday at 3:15 p.m.), a tart satire written by Jerry Belson anddirected by Michael Ritchie, was ahead of its time in its hilarious skewering ofbeauty contests. The film stars Bruce Dern as an eager-beaver recreation dealer who is the contest’s principal promoter, with Barbara Feldon as its ferocious den mother. Filmed in 1975 in Santa Rosa, which was not amused.
