OJAI : Board Starts Search for Superintendent

The Ojai school board is launching its search for a new superintendent today by interviewing three statewide consulting firms that specialize in leading searches for educational officials.
“This is the first step,” board President Muriel Lavender said. “We hope to choose a consultant by next week.” The interviews at 4 p.m. in the district office will be open to the public.
Once a consultant group is chosen, they will begin meeting with community groups to gauge what residents want in a new superintendent. The process costs about $12,000, and the district hopes to choose a new superintendent by March, Lavender said.
Andrew Smidt, the Ojai Unified School District’s superintendent of 12 years, announced his resignation last month. He will finish out the school year before assuming his new job as deputy superintendent of schools for the Santa Barbara County Department of Education.
