No. 5-Ranked Pepperdine Is In Deep Against No. 1 USC

NEWPORT BEACH — Fifth-ranked Pepperdine opens play in the three-day, double-elimination Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo tournament tonight at 6 against top-ranked USC at Newport Harbor High.
The Waves (13-8) have won six of seven matches, but USC (18-4) has defeated them in three of four matches this season.
The tournament championship match will be played Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The winner receives the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA championships, beginning Dec. 1 at Stanford.
