Airlines Unveil New Safety Program: U.S. airlines announced a new cooperative program to share a wide variety of flight data as a way to identify possible problems and head off potential accidents. Airline executives said the program will allow carriers to analyze exactly what goes on in a normal fight--how the plane is operating and what the pilot is doing--to spot troublesome trends for correction by the airlines or plane makers. The announcement of the launch of the Flight Operations Quality Assurance program, set for Jan. 22, came at the end of a two-day summit in New Orleans of safety officials.
