In a surprise move, Abbey Konowitch was ousted Monday from his post as general manager of Maverick Records, the joint venture record label launched four years ago by Madonna and Time Warner Inc. Konowitch, who came to Maverick from MTV in 1992, is credited with helping orchestrate the multimillion-dollar success of such new acts as Alanis Morissette and Candlebox.
Sources said Konowitch, who has a year left on his contract, had been at odds for about a year with Maverick co-Chairman Freddy DeMann regarding an expansion of his duties as well as a bigger salary.
* Libby Gill has been appointed to the newly created position of senior vice president of media relations for MCA Television Group.
