SANTA ANA : Schools Consider Employee Drug Tests
- Share via
Santa Ana Unified School District trustees tonight will consider a policy for drug testing of district employees.
The district policy must conform to a 1991 federal law requiring drug testing for employees who operate commercial vehicles, said Kathie Romero, director of classified personnel, which includes all district personnel except teachers and managers.
Because the school district contracts with a private company for school bus service, Romero said, the drug-testing policy will apply only to three district employees responsible for operating trailers used to haul heavy equipment.
Because so few employees are affected, Romero said, the district is not required to have a policy in place until January.
Also tonight, the school board will elect its president, vice president and clerk for the coming year.
The current president, Audrey Yamagata-Noji, would be eligible for a second term should she decide to run again.
