Boy, 11, Struck by Pickup in Crosswalk

A Maple Elementary School student was struck by a pickup truck while walking in the crosswalk near Kimber Drive and Baxter Street in Newbury Park on Wednesday morning.
Sheriff’s deputies said Peter Arreola Jr., 28, of Thousand Oaks is suspected of not stopping at the crosswalk or for a crossing guard, and continuing through the intersection, where his truck hit Ryan Weeks, 11, who was walking to the elementary school shortly before 8 a.m.
The youngster was treated and released from Los Robles Regional Medical Center. Authorities are still investigating.
