Volunteers who helped out with programs celebrating La Palma’s 40th birthday recently completed another project: raising money for the city’s library branch.
Former Mayor Keith Nelson, who was chairman of the birthday event, told the City Council that the volunteers organized a luncheon and auction to raise money for the library. “We raised $500,” Nelson reported.
Nelson presented the money to Kimberly Nissen, administrative librarian for the La Palma branch. He said it was “to use as you see fit.”
Nissen, in thanking Nelson and the other fund-raising volunteers, said the library will use the $500 gift to purchase books. “This money will buy books we couldn’t have,” she said.
