Bender’s Goal Lifts Edison Over Fountain Valley

Edison’s Jeremy Bender scored the game-winning goal in the 76th minute to help the Chargers defeat Fountain Valley, 3-2, in a Sunset League boys’ soccer game Saturday at Fountain Valley.
Bender also made a crucial save as time ran out for Edison (10-10-4, 4-4 in league). Edison’s goalkeeper Dave Van Reusen was ejected in the final minute and Fountain Valley (11-9, 3-5) was awarded a free kick. Bender made the save as time ran out.
Todd Marcus scored two goals for Edison.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Calvary Chapel 4, Los Angeles Cathedral 2--Tim Metzger scored two second-half goals for Calvary Chapel (11-6-3).
In Pacific Coast League boys’ basketball:
Aliso Niguel 47, Laguna Beach 45--Jeff Munsell scored 13 points and Jason Mulkay had 12 for Aliso Niguel (13-10, 5-3), which moved into second place tie with Laguna Hills in league. Laguna Beach is 10-12, 4-4.
In a nonleague game:
Loma Linda Academy 68, Orangewood Academy 55--Matt Bennie scored 24 points for Orangewood Academy (10-9). Teammate David Spuehler scored 13 points.
