PARIS — A booby-trapped vehicle exploded outside a hospital in Algeria, killing five people and wounding 22, the official Algerian news agency APS reported Tuesday.
The bomb exploded Monday night outside Ain Bessem hospital in Bouira province, 55 miles southeast of Algiers, the report said.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack, which damaged the hospital, a school and other buildings. But authorities have blamed a string of bombings on Islamic guerrillas.
Up to 50,000 people have been killed since early 1992, when authorities canceled general elections that Islamists were set to win.
