Port Hueneme police have arrested one of two suspected gang members in connection with the shooting of a 17-year-old Oxnard boy last week.
Witnesses who said they saw Ruben Ramirez shot twice in the leg outside a 7th Street home about noon Thursday identified a 17-year-old Port Hueneme boy who lives in the neighborhood as one of his attackers, said Sgt. Jerry Beck. The teenager was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon Thursday and released to his parents.
The other suspect is also believed to be a Port Hueneme juvenile, Beck said.
“We’ve been working around the clock talking to a lot of different people trying to track this guy down,” he said.
Police in Port Hueneme and Oxnard are trying to crack down on suspected gang-related incidents in an attempt to stop a rash of such shootings in recent months.
