Mexican Americans

Re “Natives, Newcomers at Odds in East L.A.,” March 4:
So long as Mexicans born in the U.S. regard recent immigrants from Mexico with disdain or distrust, the lot of our community will not improve. The current anti-immigrant sentiment prevalent in the Anglo community paints with a broad brush; the distinction between those of us born in the U.S. versus recent immigrants is a nicety often overlooked.
All members of the Mexican community need to come together to be sure that our rights are protected and that we secure a better standard of living for ourselves and our children. Only when we mutually respect ourselves will we gain the respect of others.
