Q: How often are people hit by meteorites?
A: Being hit by a meteorite is an exceptionally rare event that has apparently happened only once in recorded history, according to the book “1001 Questions Answered About the Mineral Kingdom,” by Richard M. Pearl. In November 1954, a meteorite struck a house in Sylacauga, Ala. The owner of the house, a Mrs. Hodges, awoke from a nap to find herself badly bruised, with an 8.5-pound meteorite on the floor next to her. The meteorite is now in the Alabama Museum of Natural History in Tuscaloosa.
