A fire of suspicious origin destroyed a bungalow and backyard shed in Ventura on Thursday, fire officials said.
Resident Julie Marquez, 89, was not home at the time of the fire, which caused about $35,000 in damage to the 75 E. Simpson St. property, authorities said.
Firefighters received the call at about 11:10 a.m. and contained the blaze within 15 minutes. There were no injuries.
Witnesses told fire officials that they saw a man running away from the blaze, authorities said.
Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
