Countywide : Immigrant Paperwork Assistance Offered

With the deadline to renew “green cards” issued before 1978 just days away, the British-American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County has forms, appointments and information for immigrants who must complete paperwork before March 20.
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service in 1994 authorized the chamber to offer the outreach service.
Appointments generally take about 10 minutes, said Valerie Blackholly, the agency’s executive director.
Immigrants of any nationality can file their forms for the resident alien cards at the British-American chamber, but they must be able to speak English or be accompanied to the appointment by someone who does, Blackholly said.
Appointments are required, she said.
The chamber also helps those who have lost their cards.
Immigrants may renew their cards at INS offices in Los Angeles and Westminster, Blackholly said, but typically face long waits in line.
