Financially disadvantaged first-time home buyers now have more time to apply for a grant that can be used as a down payment through the “California Dream” mortgage program.
Affordable Housing USA, a nonprofit group that launched the program to provide low-income families with grants ranging from $1,000 to $4,000, has extended the application deadline by one month, to April 15.
Applicants who can show need for the financial assistance and meet credit requirements may qualify for the funds that will be made available to 50 prospective home buyers through the Woodland Hills-based National Real Estate Council.
After eligibility for the California Dream is determined, first-time buyers will be assigned a housing counselor who helps with all the steps necessary to become a new home owner.
The NREC is at 5850 Canoga Ave., Suite 400, Woodland Hills. For more information, call (818) 888-0101.
