City Hall Might Stay Put

After years of looking at sites for a new City Hall building, the City Council is now thinking of staying put.
Officials are exploring the possibility of buying the building at 33282 Street of the Golden Lantern that the city now rents to house its 36 employees and City Council chambers, said Susan Cannan, finance director.
The city and the property owner, Moba Development, have hired a consultant to study the possibilities, Cannan said. The city rents office space for $31,710 a month. Its lease expires Dec. 31.
In the past four years, city officials have looked at 27 sites, some of which could have been converted for municipal offices and others on which a new city hall could have been built.
