HOUSTON — A murderer and a thief escaped from a southeast Texas prison, apparently riding to freedom on horseback hours before guards discovered they were missing, prison officials said.
Two horses carrying a prison brand were found grazing in a field about five miles from the Ramsey II prison unit near Angleton early Sunday. Guards later confirmed two inmates who were working at the prison barn were missing.
Hound dogs tracked the men to a state road in Brazoria County, where prison officials suspect they may have had an accomplice waiting with a car.
The escapees were identified as Lawrence Brown, 33, serving a 40-year sentence for murder, and Christopher Milnes, 34, serving 10 years for robbery.
