World IN BRIEF : JAPAN : Broadcast Executive Quits in Cult Scandal

The president of a Tokyo broadcasting company announced that he was stepping down over a scandal involving the doomsday cult accused of a March 1995 Tokyo subway gas attack. Tokyo Broadcasting System President Hirozo Isozaki, 63, said he was taking responsibility for a scandal involving an interview with lawyer Tsutsumi Sakamoto, who was investigating the Aum Supreme Truth sect. Sakamoto was later slain. TBS has admitted that its staff allowed cult members to view the unaired interview. Cult members stand accused of killing Sakamoto, his wife and their infant son in 1989 to remove what they viewed as a threat.
