Update / * Follow-up on the news : As Promised, City Trims Trash Rates

Following through on an earlier decision to pass along savings to residents, the City Council has voted to reduce monthly trash pickup rates.
Residential costs will fall 46 cents a month, to $16, administrative assistant Susan Lynn said.
The new rates went into effect Tuesday and will remain in effect for at least 14 months unless there is a change in the dumping fees trash haulers are charged to use the county landfill.
In March, the Board of Supervisors reduced the landfill fees after the county’s Integrated Waste Management Department reported its operating costs were going down. A number of cities decided to pass along their savings to residents.
Fountain Valley’s refuse fee includes hauling and disposal of waste as well as recycling costs, Lynn said.
