Northridge Settles for a Split Decision

Cal State Northridge pitcher Jennifer Richardson hit a grand slam in the seventh inning of the first game of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader, giving the Matadors (31-10) a 6-3 victory over Colorado State on Friday at Fort Collins, Colo.
Scia Maumausolo also had a two-run home run in the opener.
Colorado State (22-18) defeated Northridge, 5-1, in the second game, which included a grand slam by catcher Amy ReCouper.
Moorpark 6, Cuesta 3--The Raiders (7-20, 6-6) took the lead for good with three runs on five consecutive singles with one out in the fifth inning of a Western State Conference game at Moorpark.
Chara Smith had three hits while Danielle Stines and Marie Zentil each had two hits and an RBI for the Raiders, who had 12 hits--all singles.
Christina Fernandez (7-19) pitched a three-hitter and struck out three.
Pierce 11, Canyons 1--Kelly Lovato (24-4-1) pitched a two-hitter for the Brahmas (24-4-1, 10-2), striking out three and walking none in a WSC game at Pierce that was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Lily Hernandez’s fifth home run--a grand slam in the fifth--tied Pierce’s season record.
Cal Lutheran 8-3, La Verne 2-0--Heidi Stevens hit her ninth home run for host Cal Lutheran (28-1, 22-0) in the second game of an SCIAC doubleheader.
BASEBALL
Cal Lutheran 11, Caltech 2--Brad Larson had two home runs and Eric Buben added two triples for the Kingsmen (23-7-1, 15-1) in an SCIAC game at Caltech (2-16, 0-16).
Brian Padelford, Richard Bell (7-1), and Rudy Lesko combined for 13 strikeouts and no walks, scattering six hits.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cal State Northridge 5, Cal Poly Pomona 3--Lillian Ore and Ann Marie Borah defeated Patty Teal and Heather James, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1, giving the Matadors the American West Conference championship at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Amy Petersen of Northridge beat top-seeded Tracy Arnold, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
