State Hospital Is Best Use of Camarillo Site

Re: Camarillo State Hospital. I feel compelled to share the following information and to note that a lack of truthful information can lead to serious and harmful results.
First, the three large Ventura County city councils--Oxnard, Camarillo and Port Hueneme--voted favorably to keep Camarillo State Hospital open. Their written endorsements were sent to the governor and Legislature. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors has also endorsed keeping the hospital open, as have the parents, conservators, families and friends of hospital patients.
The mere thought of converting the hospital into a university is a lost cause. University officials are already putting almost $1 million into formative plans on already-purchased virgin land.
It would be a win-win situation for Ventura County to keep the hospital open with longtime patients, developmentally disabled and some forensic patients. The economic situation would greatly improve, with more employees being hired, which would raise the county tax base.
