TOPANGA CANYON — Two people were killed Friday when their motor home flipped over and burst into flames on a two-lane winding road in Calabasas.
The accident occurred at 11:54 a.m. when the driver lost control of the motor home as it approached a sharp left curve in the 3800 block of South Topanga Canyon Boulevard south of Mulholland Drive, said California Highway Patrol Lt. Donald Growe. The vehicle careened into an embankment, flipped on its side and burst into flames.

Crash site--The location of a fatal mobile home vehicle crash was incorrectly identified in a story and a map in Saturday’s Times. The accident occurred in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County near Pacific Coast Highway.
An unidentified male passenger in a passing vehicle attempted to kick in the front window on the motor home to rescue the victims but was forced to turn away when his pants caught on fire. He was not injured.
CHP officer Ken Ericsson arrived moments after the crash.
“It was completely engulfed at the time I arrived and I was there probably within a minute or two after the accident had happened,” said Ericsson.
The fire spread to overhead power lines and charred nearby brush.
Firefighters were able to douse the flames within about 20 minutes, Ericsson said.
A portion of Topanga Canyon Boulevard was closed for about four hours while officers cleared the accident scene.
Growe said the vehicle was registered in Pacific Palisades, but officers did not release the couple’s identities.
