Riverside North has established itself as the premier school for female hurdlers. Joanna Hayes won the 100-meter hurdles and 300-low hurdles at the state meet last year in near record time and is now at UCLA. She has been replaced by junior Nicole Hoxie, who won both hurdle events at the Ivy League finals last Thursday. At the Mt. San Antonio College Relays last month, Hoxie won the 100 hurdles in 13.89, the second-fastest high school time in the nation this season. . . . Obea Moore of Pasadena Muir seems well on the way to his goal of breaking 45 seconds in the 400. The junior won the event at the Pacific League finals last Saturday in 46.0. He also won the 200 in an impressive 20.8. . . . Long Beach Wilson showed why it is regarded as the fastest girls team in the area. At the Moore League finals last Saturday, the Bruins swept the 200, with senior Kinshasa Davis finishing first in 24.58, and freshmen Joni Smith (24.76) and Latrice Borders (24.77) finishing second and third.
