Jo-Ann Yoos, a former intermediate school principal and current assistant superintendent in charge of personnel, has been appointed principal of Thousand Oaks High School.
She assumes the top position at the 2,100-student school on July 1.
Yoos, a 17-year employee of the Conejo Valley Unified School District, is a former teacher, dean of students and assistant principal with 30 years in education. She has worked in the district office for the past year.
“She cares greatly about kids and missed them when she left Los Cerritos Intermediate,” said Richard Simpson, assistant superintendent of instructional services for the district. “It was one of her dreams to become a principal of a comprehensive four-year high school. And she thought what better place than here to do that, where she knows the community.”
She has also taught in other states and with Department of Defense schools for Americans in Germany.
She was unanimously recommended to the board by a nine-member panel that included students, parents, teachers and administrators.
“I’m excited,” Yoos said. “I’m really looking forward to working with the students again. I think if you’re a teacher, that’s where your heart is.”
Her goals for the high school include establishing a vision to carry the school through 2000, with continued participation by parents.
She takes over the position from Principal Keith Wilson, who requested reassignment earlier this year, Yoos said. Wilson was unavailable for comment.
