Azusa Pacific Takes Early Lead, Holds Off SCC

Azusa Pacific used only four hits to score five runs in the first two innings as the Cougars beat Southern California College, 7-4, in an NAIA Far West regional softball elimination game Friday at Azusa Pacific.
Southern California College rallied for three in the fourth, but the Cougars (44-11) came up with two more in the seventh to pull away.
Angela Wolf had two hits and two RBIs and losing pitcher Jen Houston struck out eight for SCC, which ends at 26-23-2.
Southern California College had finished second in the Golden State Athletic Conference to Azusa Pacific, which ended SCC’s streak of three consecutive conference titles.
In the NCAA Division I Region 8 championships:
Pepperdine 4, UC Irvine 1--Marc Tardif won the Anteaters’ only set of the first round, 6-4, 6-3, over Pepperdine’s Michael Jessup at Nevada Las Vegas.
