George E. Donswyk; Oil Company Worker

George Edward Donswyk, a longtime Ventura resident and oil company purchasing agent, died Friday at the age of 78.

Donswyk was born May 4, 1918, in Rotterdam, Holland. His family immigrated to Los Angeles in 1923 and settled in Ventura eight years later.

In 1936, Donswyk graduated from Ventura Senior High School. He soon began working for the Lloyd Corp., a company owned by oil giant Texaco Inc. He stayed with the company for the next 43 years, finally retiring in 1983.

Donswyk married Pat Cline in 1941, and together they raised three children in Ventura. Daughter Joanne Blanford of Ventura said her father enjoyed growing orchids and took great pride in his garden. He also enjoyed vacationing in the mountains, taking his family on annual treks to Meeks Bay on Lake Tahoe, Blanford said.

Donswyk was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Lynn MacCuish of Placentia.

Other survivors include his wife, a son, Jim Donswyk of Ventura, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, with burial to follow at Ivy Lawn cemetery.
