Rubio Heads Irvine Fight Card

IRVINE — Lightweight Carlos Rubio, who has defeated Orange County favorites Rudy Zavala and Mike Semaza, will take on Northridge’s Carlos Guzman in tonight’s eight-round main event at the Irvine Marriott.
Rubio (12-3-2 with five knockouts), who is from Guadalajara, Mexico, has won his last three Marriott fights, including a Jan. 25 victory over Zavala, a former North American Boxing Federation Champion. Guzman (7-3-3 with three knockouts) won his last fight at the Woodland Hills Marriott.
Junior featherweight Rodrigo Valenzuela (9-8 with four knockouts), will fight Alvaro Soto (9-2-1 with four knockouts) of Pico Rivera in the six-round main event.
The featured undercard bout is four-rounder between super middleweight Nick Martinez and Santa Ana’s Malcolm Brooks (1-1). Martinez, a bronze medalist at the U.S. Championships in Colorado Springs, will be making his pro debut.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are $25, $30 and $35 and are on sale at the Marriott Ballroom.
