Rabin’s Killer Backs Netanyahu

TEL AVIV — The man who killed former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin over his peace moves with the Arabs is happy about the election victory of hard-liner Benjamin Netanyahu, his lawyer said Wednesday.
“Yigal Amir said he voted for Benjamin Netanyahu . . . ,” lawyer Shmuel Fleishman told reporters at a Tel Aviv court. “Now he is part of more than half the country that’s happy about the elections.”
Netanyahu, elected prime minister last week, has said he opposes swapping land for peace with the Arabs. Fleishman said his client’s “political views are obviously close” to those of Netanyahu.
In March, a court convicted Amir of killing Rabin after a Tel Aviv peace rally Nov. 4 and jailed him for life. Amir, his brother Hagai Amir and friend Dror Adani are now on trial for plotting Rabin’s assassination.
