The Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame has selected Steve Aylsworth of Westlake and Kim Mortensen of Thousand Oaks as its high school athletes of the year.
Mark Ellis of Cal Lutheran and Marina Torres Reyes of Ventura College were chosen college athletes of the year.
The presentations were made at the 14th Hall of Fame induction dinner Saturday night.
“The inductees selected this year have had the largest personal following in the history of our Hall of Fame,” chairman Chuck Eskew said. “The turnout [for the ceremony] is the best we have had in years.”
Aylsworth starred in football and basketball at Westlake. He will attend Lehigh University.
Mortensen, who has accepted a scholarship to UCLA, set a national high school record at the Southern Section Masters Meet when she ran the 3,200 meters in 9:48.59.
Ellis (34-1) won the NCAA Division III tennis championship.
Torres Reyes led the Ventura women’s basketball team to a 35-0 record and the state title. She was also selected national junior college player of the year by Student Sports Magazine.
