Mario Varela’s two-run home run in the third inning lifted Antelope Valley North to a 3-2 District 20 victory over Antelope Valley South on Thursday at Rosamond High.
Varela homered after Tommy Creighton reached base on a strikeout when the throw from catcher Brian Scoles caromed off his batting helmet, scoring Kevin Love.
Kris Campbell (1-2) pitched a five-hitter, striking out five.
In other District 20 games:
Santa Clarita South 7, Santa Clarita North 2--Eric Horvatt had a two-run double in a three-run second inning for Santa Clarita South (8-1).
Andy Davidson (2-0) allowed four hits and an unearned run in four innings.
Panorama City 12, Mission Hills 2--Evan Lovett pitched a six-hitter and had a two-run triple for Panorama City (9-3).
Sepulveda 3, Valley South 0--Richie Waisberg (2-1) pitched a two-hitter and Josh Persell hit a two-run double.
