‘Last Emperor’ to Start Bertolucci Retrospective

A two-month retrospective of Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci’s films will begin Saturday at Laemmle’s Monica 4-Plex, 1332 2nd St., Santa Monica, with a screening of his 1987 “The Last Emperor” at 11 a.m., which will repeat Sunday at the same time.
The retrospective will cover a 31-year period, from Bertolucci’s 1962 “Before the Revolution” to his 1993 “Little Buddha.” Other films in the series include “1900,” Parts 1 and 2, and the controversial 1973 “Last Tango in Paris.”
