Maneuvers: Sure, Assemblywoman Paula L. Boland’s secession-easing bill has cleared one state Senate committee. But it may not be headed to the full Senate floor just yet. . . . Sen. Richard Polanco (D-Los Angeles), who opposes the bill, is trying to steer it to the elections panel he chairs, where it would certainly die. Details in today’s Political Briefing (B5).
Title Town: Who’s next for boxer P.J. Goossen? Maybe Roberto Duran. Goossen of North Hollywood became the first Valley-born world titleholder after winning a 12-round decision over Greg Lonon at the Warner Center Marriott. It gives him the International Boxing Organization junior middleweight championship. . . . Promoter Gerrie Coetzee is considering a Duran-Goossen matchup, but no official discussions have taken place (C10).

It ended up being death by displacement, says Rabbi Joseph Cohen, whose Orthodox Jewish congregation could find no alternative site. . . . What happened to his former congregants, mostly Iranian immigrants? “I don’t think they’re going anywhere” to worship, says Cohen.
