Bomb Making Soars Over ‘95, Block Reports

The number of explosive devices identified by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies in response to calls of suspected bombs soared in the first six months of the year, Sheriff Sherman Block reported Wednesday.
The sheriff said 273 calls were received through June 30, compared with 253 in the first six months of 1995. But this year, 178 actual explosive devices were found, compared with 86 last year, he said.
Block attributed the rise to the availability of bomb-making instructions on the Internet.
