College Hosts Reentry Program

To ease the transition for students reentering the education system at Ventura College, the school will host a “Re-Entry and Women’s Center Orientation” on Aug. 14.
“A lot of the reentry students are single parents, and they need a lot of support because they are frightened, and they don’t know if they can do it,” said student Sarah Chingo, who works at the center.
The 3-year-old center offers a mentor program, workshops, support groups, events, textbook-lending library, children’s clothing exchange and referrals.
The center is open to all students, but targets those who have a “gap in learning,” Chingo said. “They have graduated from high school, and now they’ve waited maybe a year, maybe 20 or 30 years, to go to college.”
The orientation will take place between 10 a.m. and noon in Room 2 of Building CL at Ventura College, 4667 Telegraph Road.
