Abortion of Twin Already Performed

Reports that a woman planned to abort one of her twins because she could not afford two babies led to a public outcry and offers of large amounts of cash--until a hospital revealed that the fetus had already been aborted. Antiabortion groups pledged more than $77,000 to dissuade the woman from getting the abortion and, before the truth emerged, even got a court order to prevent the procedure. Further details about the woman were not immediately available.
