ONCE IS ENOUGH

I am greatly annoyed by the film companies, directors, producers, you name it, who decide to reissue a movie under the guise of a reedited, director’s cut, ad nauseam reason (“They’re Off to Sell Their Treasures--Again,” by Donald Liebenson, July 28).
What about consumers who already purchased what they thought was the final version of a movie, like me, only to be confronted with a “new” version or, worse, versions? Do they think that we will gladly purchase yet another version? I think not.
What irks me even more is that the industry was, at the advent of the video age, adamantly opposed to movies being on video. They changed their tune after a court decision and, I’m certain in their accounting view, the eventual zillions of dollars that flowed into their bank accounts. Knowing the incredible amounts of money they can make, they’re milking this for all it’s worth.
