Health Fair to Offer Free Immunizations

Free health screenings and immunizations will be offered to children ages 2 months to 18 years Saturday at the seventh annual Kids Care Fair.

Health-screening stations set up at three sites in the San Fernando Valley will offer height and weight measurement, dental care, family health review and blood pressure and vision screening.

Other booths will provide information to parents and relatives on eating disorders, lead poisoning, nutrition, HIV/AIDS, prenatal care and other topics. The fair will also feature crafts and entertainment.

Project director Linda Swift said parents or guardians who need information or have questions regarding immunizations for tetanus, measles, meningitis and rubella can call and listen to recorded messages in English, Spanish, Korean and Chinese.

A major goal of the fair is to offer free immunizations to infants. “Some parents don’t get the immunizations done until they have to,” said Swift. “We really encourage parents to bring in the yellow immunization record card. It makes it so much easier for us to determine what immunizations are then needed for the kids.”

The event, sponsored by the American Red Cross, KABC-TV, Sav-On Drugs and Aetna Health Plans/Aetna Foundation, will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at these sites:

* Canoga Park Health Center/Northeast Valley Health Corp., 7107 Remmet Ave., Canoga Park.

* Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, 501 S. Buena Vista St., Burbank.

* YWCA of Greater Los Angeles, North Valley, 1200 N. Maclay St., San Fernando.
