Consolidated Freightways to Spin Off Subsidiary: Consolidated Freightways Inc. said it will spin off its largest subsidiary, CF MotorFreight, to avoid competition between its regional and national operations. After the transaction is completed, scheduled for the fourth quarter, the Palo Alto-based trucking company said, it will change its name to CNF Transportation Inc. The CF MotorFreight subsidiary is made up of a national less-than-truckload carrier and several Canadian businesses. Less-than-truckload companies transport several smaller shipments on one truck rather than one large shipment per truck. After the spinoff, CF MotorFreight will be known as Consolidated Freightways Corp.
