Rebels Turn Out for Assembly Election

Hundreds of Muslim rebels, in uniform but without weapons, lined up with villagers to vote in a peaceful election that marks the first step in a treaty meant to bring greater autonomy to Muslims in the southern Philippines. The government reported heavy turnout. Results were expected within 48 hours.
