SANTA ANA — A man killed in a drive-by shooting was identified Friday as 18-year-old Leonard Zubia, the second teenager to die amid gang-related violence in the southwest Santa Ana neighborhood this week, police said.
Zubia was standing in his front yard in the 3100 block of Cubbon Street about 8 p.m. Thursday when gunfire from a moving vehicle struck him once in the upper torso, police Sgt. Bob Clark said. Gang unit investigators believe the vehicle is involved in three other drive-by shootings in which no one was injured, Clark said.
The assailant fled and a weapon has not been recovered, police said. Zubia was taken to Coastal Communities Hospital in Santa Ana, where he died. Investigators have not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting.
On Sunday, two men drove up to 19-year-old Michael A. Hernandez as he was walking near his home in the 3200 block of Cubbon Street and stabbed him to death, investigators said. Police do not believe there is a link between the two slayings.
