Safe Ways to Get Rid of Ant Invaders

Your Aug. 28 article on battling ants (“Swarm Weather”) mentioned only toxic solutions. In fact there are many safer solutions.

The simplest measure is prevention: Keep food in sealed containers or in the refrigerator, and keep counters clean and dry. When ants do invade your home, crush them and wipe out their trail with a sponge and soap. Flood ants out of infested houseplants, and use two-sided tape, paprika, or a water barrier to deter ants. If you can find out where ants are entering your home, caulk the crack.

Ants kill termites and they don’t spread disease, but if you must get rid of them, use safe solutions.
