On Sept. 27, Christie’s will hold its first-ever auction of paintings, photos and other memorabilia related to exploration and the early days of travel. Among the sale’s 176 items, valued from $310 to $63,000, are a dinner menu (pictured) from the 1911-’13 Australasian Antarctic expedition, photos from the first flight over Mt. Everest in 1933, and a painting by Nicolas Antoine Taunay (1755-1830) of Brazil. The public may view the items Friday, next Sunday and Sept. 23-26 and attend the auction for free at Christie’s, 8 King St., St. James’s, London SW1Y 6QT.
