Robber at Large After City’s 2nd Bank Holdup This Week

OXNARD — After threatening to kill a teller, a man made off with an undetermined amount of cash during a bank robbery Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The holdup took place about 5 p.m. at the California Federal Bank branch in the 2900 block of Saviers Road, FBI Special Agent Gary Auer said.

No one was hurt, and the robber remained at large Friday night, Auer said.

It was the second bank robbery in Oxnard this week.

Officials said the man entered the bank carrying a brown suede backpack. “He verbally threatened to kill the teller, but no gun was seen,” Auer said.

After the money was placed in the backpack, the robber ran into the parking lot, Auer said.

The robber was described as a white male with a tan complexion, about 29, medium build and weighing 190 pounds, Auer said. He wore a green plaid Nike baseball cap, brown sunglasses and a white tank top. He was also wearing an earpiece connected to a radio of some type under his shirt, Auer said.

As of Friday night, authorities had not linked the man to prior bank robberies in Ventura County, Auer said.

The county has had 37 bank robberies this year--12 more than at the same time in 1995, Auer said. The county ended last year with 50 bank robberies, he said.

On Monday, a man robbed the Santa Barbara Bank & Trust branch in the 2300 block of North Oxnard Boulevard. The suspect in that holdup is still at large.
