DANA POINT — Julio Peraza gained 111 yards and scored a touchdown to lead Dana Hills to a 21-0 victory over Lake Elsinore Temescal Canyon Friday at Dana Hills High.
Temescal Canyon (0-2) is the defending Southern Section Division VIII champion.
Peraza got the Dolphins (1-1) going early. He gained 42 yards on the opening drive, which stalled at the five-yard line. Matt Deter had a 27-yard field goal.
Peraza scored his touchdown on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter.
“We’re still mixing and matching people, but I think we’re pretty sound at running back,” Dana Hills Coach Scott Orloff said.
Dana Hills, which won only two games last season, finished with 200 yards rushing. The Dolphins also got big plays from their defense and special teams.
Billy McGowan returned an interception to the Temescal Canyon 29. It set up a one-yard touchdown run by quarterback Aaron Kaufman.
B.J. Buck had a 43-yard punt return in the fourth quarter to set up Peraza’s touchdown.
Deter had a 22-yard field goal to give the Dolphins a 13-0 halftime lead.
