Tustin Scores Early, Often to Rout Troy

TUSTIN — Tustin High scored on six of its first seven possessions and dominated all phases of the game en route to a 56-19 nonleague victory over Troy Friday night at Northrup Field.

The Tillers (2-0) rushed for 326 yards and scored six rushing touchdowns--two each by DeShaun Foster and Brandon Lambert--as well as a pair of 90-yard scoring plays by Dominique DeGrammont, who ran a kickoff back and also caught a touchdown pass from Todd Scott.

Tustin had a 21-0 lead when Troy (0-2) finally scored a touchdown on a 16-yard run by Kyion Grayes with 8 minutes 4 seconds left in the first half.

But DeGrammont, the 110-meter hurdles champion in track last year as a junior, took the ensuing kickoff and hurdled one Troy defender before sprinting 90 yards down the sideline.

“My blockers did a great job on that play,” DeGrammont said of the kickoff return. “It felt great to score.”

His 90-yard scoring pass play from Scott completed Tustin’s scoring with 7:14 left in the game.

Lambert led the Tillers with 107 yards and Foster had 102. Greg Carnal, Tustin’s third featured back, had 98 yards on six carries and scored on a 60-yard run.

“Our offensive line did a great job tonight,” Lambert said.

The Warriors were led by the rushing combination of Grayes (102 yards in 22 carries) and Adrian Vargas, who had a team-high 152 yards in 25 attempts and scored a touchdown from 11 yards out in the third quarter.

Eddie Ayala came into the game on Troy’s final drive and completed the scoring on a nine-yard run.
