Free Repair Clinic to Fix Wheelchairs

Wheelchairs should be riding more smoothly around the Valley following a free repair clinic planned for Saturday.
The Van Nuys Rotary Club and Valley Presbyterian Hospital are sponsoring the event, which is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the hospital’s Health Education Center at 15107 Vanowen St.
“It’s a lot of cleaning, replacing of brake pads, simple things that elderly or handicapped people don’t have the wherewithal to do themselves,” said Judi Rose of the Rotary club.
Safety checks also will be performed.
Rose said hospital technicians will be on hand to work on both manual and basic electric wheelchairs. Therapists will help people in and out of their chairs.
About 30 rotary club members have volunteered for the clinic. Local businesses have donated supplies and refreshments.
