Three candidates are vying for two open seats on the board of the La Habra City School District. A look at the district and the candidates:

Area: La Habra, parts of Brea and Fullerton
Enrollment: 5,686
Facilities: Three schools for kindergarten through second-grade, three schools for third- through fifth-grade, and two middle schools.

THE CANDIDATES
Morrison M. Clements
Age: 64
Occupation: Corporate director of business development, marketing and engineering
Qualifications: Incumbent, elected in 1975; MBA from Pepperdine University; formerly a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force special weapons unit
Major issues: Finding, hiring and keeping the best teachers, providing adequate housing for district activities, encouraging the entire community to get involved in education
Susan M. Hango
Age: 52
Occupation: Secretary
Qualifications: Incumbent, elected in 1983; leader of La Habra Girl Scouts for the past 17 years; former member of La Habra Council
Parent- Teacher Assn., variousschool site councils; member of district advisory groups
Major issues: Supports district goals of encouraging students to work at their highest potential, providing teachers with new information and teaching strategies
Cindy Frisbie Hecklau
Age: 34
Occupation: Registered nurse
Qualifications: Member of Ladera Palma and Sierra Vista elementary school site councils; board member of La Habra Girls Softball Assn.; member of school district’s advisory and information group
Major issues: To be the parents’ representative on the board; and to address concerns about technology in the classroom, overcrowding, campus safety and enrichment programs
